It’s Time to Personalize Your Teacup!

Our team at Teacup has worked tirelessly to create functional and beautiful layouts. But while we know a thing or two about seamless tiny living, we also know how important it is that your tiny cottage feels like yours. That's why we've created opportunities for you to personalize your Teacup while preserving the flow and function we're known for!

To build the tiny cottage of your dreams, you'll want to begin by having a look at our product gallery. The first step is to gather inspiration! And once you have a general idea of the size and layout you're after, it will be time to add the details! There are many ways to personalize your Teacup, but we think it helps to sort your choices into two design categories: functional and aesthetic.

Functional Options.

Functional options are ones that will affect how you use your tiny cottage or tiny home. In small spaces, it's important to prioritize, and since you know yourself best, there are some decisions we've left up to you. Here are a few functional things you might want to consider.

Shower or Bathtub.

If you want to get clean and get on with your life, a simple shower may be the choice for you. But if you have kids, a dog, or are a fan of bubble baths, you'll definitely want to select our 60" fibreglass bathtub option! You can use the models in our gallery as a guide, but know that just because a house isn't photographed with a tub doesn't mean we can't put one in. In fact, the bathroom is one of the most customizable sections of our tiny cottages! And this brings us to our next personalization opportunity!

Composting or Regular Toilet.

A composting toilet can sound intimidating if you've never used one, but trust us, the Separett is super user-friendly! It's easy to clean, smells less than a regular toilet, and ensures you won't have to deal with the dreaded blackwater. (Eliminating blackwater, by the way, will make parking your Teacup easier!)

But can you have a traditional flush toilet? Of course! Just say the word, and we'll install one. Oh, and if you can't decide, you should know that double plumbing is a thing!

Heating & Cooling.

All our Teacups come standard with in-floor propane heating (to protect you from frozen pipes), but the rest is up to you to decide!

When you customize your Teacup Tiny Home, you can choose to include a mini-split air-conditioner, your choice of fireplace, or even an HRV unit. (If you don't know, HRV stands for heat recovery ventilator. It's designed to ventilate cold-climate homes while retaining heat indoors.) Don't worry if you don't know which choice would be best- our team will happily discuss your situation with you when you book a Discovery Call.

Alright, ready to hear about some of your aesthetic options? Let's do this!

Aesthetic Options.

If you've ever fantasized about playing designer, this is your opportunity to add the flourishes that will make your Teacup stand out on Instagram! Of course, you will be able to add even more when you decorate, but here are a few elements we can personalize for you in the build process.

Painted or Unfinished Walls.

Walls make a big statement in a living space! We don't often consciously notice them, but changing the walls often changes the vibe of a room completely. This is why we felt walls were another decision best left to you!

If you're going for an all-natural or rustic cabin vibe, unfinished wood walls could be the way to go. Unfinished wood is earthy and breathable in a way that leans into those styles, and if that's your deal, we can't blame you!

If you're looking for a more finished look, though, it's not a problem. We would be more than happy to paint the walls of your Teacup- just tell us what color!

Cabinets.

Cabinets make big statements in tiny kitchens, so we want to make sure we get these just right! And to that end, there are a few decisions you'll need to make.

The first decision is deciding whether or not you want cabinets at all. Most people want a few, but you should know that drawers, pullout pantries, and open-shelving are also options!

If you do choose cabinets, you will then need to decide what color they are and what they are made of. At Teacup, we build cabinets out of traditional wood or melamine (a durable, heat-resistant plastic). Melamine cabinets will give your home a more contemporary vibe, while wood cabinets will keep things a bit more traditional. Both are great!

Exterior Cladding.

We want your Teacup to have the kind of curb appeal that stops you in your tracks. And that's why when it comes to exterior cladding, we've got options!

If you desire a more modern look, LP wood siding or steel-ribbed pro-lock siding could provide the sleek look you envision. But if you want to keep things more traditional, we recommend vertical board and batten or stained cedar T&G siding. There is no wrong choice!

Oh, no! We're running out of room in this post. And there are still so many personalization options for you to play with! Will you have a combo unit washer/dryer or a stackable one? Will you choose to include a dishwasher or maybe a microwave in your build? And how do you want to access your loft: via stairs or a ladder?

If you don't know the answer to these questions, no worries! You can explore all the options with our online estimate builder. This will let you make your choices and see what they cost- we are big fans of transparency!

Once you've gathered your thoughts and taken our financing quiz, it will be time to sit down with a member of our team to sort out the details. If you don't know what a mini-split is or which countertops are most likely to survive teenagers, this will be your chance to ask questions. You can book a Discovery Call here.

Alright, well, that's all for this week! We hope you enjoy personalizing your Teacup tiny home or tiny cottage just as much as we did designing the layouts!
